Market Information

To help speed the success of young companies licensing University of Wisconsin technology, WARF offers its startups free access to market research information.

This information can help WARF startups develop sound strategic and financial plans and obtain the financing necessary to transform ideas into viable products.

The market information provided by WARF has helped several companies answer the following key questions.

  • What are the expected markets for these products and the market sizes?
  • Who are the company's anticipated customers?
  • Who are the company's competitors or potential competitors in this market?
  • What comparable licensing deals have been completed by the company's competitors?
  • What type of financing has been acquired by the company's competitors?
  • Who are potential financiers of the company?

WARF can provide its startups various types of market information. One of the most valuable services we offer young startups is free access to market reports developed by third-party vendors. We work with leading business information and analysis firms Frost & Sullivan and GlobalData to provide market information that can be essential for developing effective business plans and strategies.

These third-party reports are available to startups that:

  • have executed a standstill, option, equity or license agreement with WARF or are in negotiations/discussions to do so; and
  • generate annual sales of less than $3 million.

To request market information:

If you meet all of the above criteria, which WARF monitors closely due to the requirements of our vendors, you can request this service by following the steps below:

  1. Review the Frost & Sullivan or Pharma eTrack (GlobalData) report selections to identify the type of reports and information you would like to receive. Please note that some reports may not be available or may have some restrictions through our subscription plan.
  2. Complete the Market Research Sharing Agreement. Please include your startup contact information, but do not list contact information for other affiliations such as UW–Madison or venture investment groups. In item #2, request specific titles, publication dates, authors and reference numbers of the reports you are interested in. You may fill in and print the PDF form or print it and fill it out by hand. Return the signed and completed agreement to your licensing manager.

Depending upon the current volume and nature of requests, response times may vary.

If you have any questions about third-party market reports, or other market analysis services available from WARF, please contact your licensing manager.
