OVERVIEW
New compounds of the formula where Y1 represents hydroxy, protected-hydroxy, O-tosyl, O-mesyl, bromine, chlorine, or iodine and X1 and X2 may independently represent hydrogen or a hydroxy-protecting group are useful as intermediates for the production of 19-nor vitamin D derivatives, particularly 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, from (-)quinic acid.
