Color “Getters” for Color Removal in Solvent-Based Plastic Recycling
WARF: P250247US02
Inventors: George Huber, Charles Granger, Tianwei Yan
The Invention
UW-Madison researchers have developed a method to remove pigments and other fillers from colored plastic waste by adding compounds that they call "getters" to the dissolved polymer solution to agglomerate pigments and make them easier to remove via filtration. These “getters” are typically other polymers such as PVA, PVAc, PVC or PU. These could also be added by strategically mixing batches of plastic waste known to contain these polymers.
