ONE-STEP SAMPLE EXTRACTION CASSETTE AND METHOD FOR POINT-OF-CARE MOLECULAR TESTING
WARF: P210247US01

Inventors: Duane Juang, Terry Juang, David Beebe

Overview
The current gold standard method for COVID-19 testing is a multi-step protocol 25 involving RNA extraction using column-based or magnetic bead-based methods, followed by RT-qPCR-based detection of the extracted RNA. Unless automated platforms are employed, this extraction process is lengthy and laborious.
The Invention
UW researchers have developed a new point-of-care molecular testing solution. It can be implemented in a one-step sample extraction cassette to provide accurate and rapid results. The sample is obtained on a swab, and the swab inserted into the cassette. The cassette is then engaged to initiate a series of sequential wash and reaction steps resulting in a visual display.
