The Invention
UW-Madison researchers have designed a sophisticated imaging fiducial with 3D helical patterns that stores geometric information directly within a single fiducial shape rather than an array of individual simple, fiducial points. This permits fully autonomous, accurate, single modality detection and registration of medical devices. The method requires only a single fiducial marker, and a single imaging modality such as MRI, CT, or PET.
