ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENT GENES IN CANNABIS SATIVA
WARF: P260011US01

Inventors: Shelby Ellison, Carter Prillaman, Michael Petersen

The Invention

UW-Madison researchers have generated T₀ transgenic Cannabis sativa plants expressing CsMYB33 or CsMYB78 transcription factors, which induce visible anthocyanin pigmentation in vegetative and reproductive tissues. The inventors transformed Cannabis sativa with either the CsMYB33 or CsMYB78 genes under a ubiquitin promoter using the GAANTRY assembly method and found enhanced expression of anthocyanins in all tissue types of the T0 lines. On average, there was twice as much anthocyanin content using the CsMYB33 vector as compared to CsMYB78.
