MECHANICALLY STABLE AND HIGH CELL DENSITY HONEYCOMB RETINAL SCAFFOLD DESIGN FOR TRANSPLANTATION THERAPY OF PHOTORECEPTOR CELLS AND RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIUM
WARF: P200035US02

Inventors: Zhenqiang Ma, Inkyu Lee, Juhwan Lee, Michael Phillips, David Gamm, Shaoqin Gong

The Invention
UW-Madison researchers have developed photoreceptor scaffolds that can be used for transplantation of organized photoreceptor tissue, with or without retinal pigment epithelial cells, which may improve grafted cell survival, integration, and functional visual rescue. The scaffolds include a cell support layer with honeycomb-shaped reservoirs and through-holes for single cell placement and orientation.
