SARS-COV-2 LACKING THE ENVELOPE PROTEIN AS AN ATTENUATED VACCINE VIRUS AGAINST COVID-19
Inventors: Yoshihiro Kawaoka, Peter Halfmann, Makoto Kuroda
UW-Madison researchers have developed a SARS-CoV-2 live-attenuated vaccine virus based on the original Wuhan genome but lacking the envelope (E) open reading frame. This vaccine virus replicates efficiently in Vero cells that stably express the E protein.
