The Invention

UW-Madison researchers have discovered that MYDGF-knockout iNeutrophils (neutrophils produced through differentiation from pluripotent stem cells) have the ability to efficiently migrate across endothelium in response to bacteria. MYDGF-knockout iNeutrophils also show a more activated phenotype with aggregation, increased ROS production and other antimicrobial effector functions. The MYDGF-knockout iNeutrophils exhibit better activity than any similar line. Accordingly, the use of MYDGF-knockout PSCs is recommended for the production of robust iNeutrophils.
